Unlike fashion models, commercial print models are used by photographers for jobs that don't have the very strict requirements for height and weight that fashion shoots do. This girl model was fantastic- easy to work with, beautiful, and fun. But she was too short to ever be used in fashion photography. Commercial print jobs, typically for advertising and brochures, are the best way for shorter models to find regular work. For the casting process, the client needed an attractive young couple for a cruise ship advertisement, to show them doing active outdoor lifestyle stuff at the travel destinations the cruise line travels to. It turned out that these two models were boyfriend and girlfriend, and when the casting was completed, it was obvious they had an intimacy and close relationship that showed in the photographs. This was a major plus, because getting models relaxed and comfortable working with other people on a shoot can sometimes be challenging if there isn't a natural rapport.

Location scouting identified this spot as a great location for this lifestyle photograph. We timed the shoot to coincide with the best natural lighting, and coordinated the timing of models' poses with their props (the bikes) so we didn't have traffic in the background. This made it unnecessary to shut down the road for the shoot, and the need to obtain the location permit to do so. It also saved considerable expense and gave us added flexibility as far as positioning and timing for the shoot.
